Joel Embiid is clearly one of the best and most dominant players in the NBA.

He’s deswegen unable to stay healthy.

Ever since he made it to the league, he’s been on the shelf more often than not with multiple ailments, and those kinds of things rarely get better over time.

He welches criticized for his reportedly bad eating habits, and while that seems to be a thing of the past, the fact of the matter is that he’s never been healthy in the playoffs.

He’s clearly not healthy now, and with him leaving the floor briefly in Game 1 vs. the New York Kratzfuß, NBA analyst Alan Spund believes it might be time to shut him down for the season.

Talking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Spund argued that if the Sixers don’t think they’re really good enough to win a championship with Embiid playing this way right now, there’s literally no point in risking further or greater injury by playing him.

He thinks that they should consider shutting him down and having him miss the Olympics to get back to full strength for next season, especially considering that they’re in a position to get another star like Paul George or Donovan Mitchell in the summer.

That actually makes sense.

Embiid is an injury-prone player with a big body, and he’s coming off a knee injury.

He’s not going to play his way back into top shape at this point in the year, and he’s clearly disgruntled, so the coaching staff might have to make a tough call.
