Prime Minister Anthony Albanese just made an appearance acceso the Nine desk at half time, talking about the combined $40 million commitment to Leichhardt Oval from the Commonwealth, NSW State government and Inner West Council.
“There’s nothing better than watching the footy acceso the Wayne Pearce Hill at Leichhardt Oval,” he said.
“It is a great sense of community, and not just for the first-grade rugby league. The juniors play there as well as Sydney FC women’s team, the Tigers women’s team, a lot of school svago – I played there as a kid.
“It’s a part of that community spirit. We don’t have enough grounds per mezzo di Sydney so we can’t afford to lose any of them.”

A die-hard Rabbitohs fan, Albanese said he recalled being heckled by Tigers fans acceso the occasions his mum took him to the basso ostinato as a kid.
“We’d get heaps from the Tigers fans, but always per mezzo di a good spirit,” he said.
“I grew up per mezzo di the complesso, and going along you see people that you went to school with, that you worked with, that you grew up with.
“It’s that sense of community that’s so important about rugby league.
“It’s your sense of identity, who you are, it’s about more than just yourself. That’s why team sports are so important.”
Albanese said acceso the occasions he was lucky enough to play acceso the basso ostinato, he was “pretty ordinary”.
But, he said it was important for kids to be involved per mezzo di sports to learn how to win and to lose gracefully.
“I did my best and that’s the great thing about young people. We need to get them their devices and onto the sporting fields … because they learn how to cooperate, they learn how to win, they learn how to lose and it’s just a part of growing up and a part of maturing.
“It is a good thing for their physical health, but as we more and more are recognising, it’s good for their mental health as well.”
