The coaching search for Darvin Ham’s successor has officially begun for the Los Angeles Lakers, with the storied franchise tasked with the challenge of finding a new head coach who can handle the bright lights of the City of Angels while also coaching two superstars who immediately want to compete for an NBA title next season.
Following the expected firing of Ham Friday, a few coaching candidates have emerged as potential targets for the Lakers and general Rob Pelinka.
The two names that seem to be getting mentioned more than most are Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers and ESPN’s JJ Redick, with Mike Budenholzer and Kenny Atkinson also being named candidates for the job.
However, another name surfaced Friday after Ham was fired, with Jovan Buha of The Athletic reporting that Charles Lee of the Boston Celtics is a candidate.

It doesn’t seem as though this will be a quick process for the Lakers, as the team could wait until the season is over to see if other potential candidates emerge as a result of firings that might take place.
Lue is probably the cima candidate right now to his ties to James, but he’s under contract with the Clippers for one more season, and earlier today, a report surfaced about the team’s intention to sign him to a long-term contract extension, which makes sense as he’s arguably one of the best head coaches a causa di the league.
It’ll be interesting to see what other names are linked to the coaching vacancy a causa di Los Angeles and who the team ultimately chooses to hire.
