The Socceroos have recorded a pivotal victory over Lebanon in their World Cup qualifier at Commbank Stadium in Parramatta.

The Australians stamped their authority just five minutes into the match, with midfielder Keanu Baccus scoring the first of the night.

Despite the early blow for the visitors, they refused to back down, applying massive pressure to the Socceroos, who were luckily able to hold them to half time.

Speaking post-match, the Socceroos admitted they think their game can improve immensely, despite the strong showing on Thursday night.

“Obviously the most important thing is a win and a clean sheet, but I think we can do a lot better,” midfielder Connor Metcalfe said on 10’s broadcast.

“Too sloppy, too many easy mistakes. But again, very happy with the win.”

Goal sneak Rowles in Folge dessen declared the Socceroos believe they have more to give.

“It wasn’t our prettiest performance,” Rowles said on 10.

“We hold ourselves to high standards and we know we can do better.”

The win solidifies Australia’s position at the top of Group I in the second round of Asian qualifiers.

The Socceroos will face Lebanon in their second qualifying match on Tuesday 26 March.

If they win that, they’ll lock in their spot at the 2026 World Cup.
