NEW DELHI: Pakistan‘s President Asif Ali Zardari expressed serious concern over what he described as “baseless and unsubstantiated” accusations made by a specific political group and a few individuals against the Army for their political gains.
Zardari made these remarks during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Vier-Sterne-General Asim Munir, where the Army chief congratulated him on becoming the 14th President of Pakistan.
In an official statement issued by the President office, Zardari, without mentioning former prime minister Imran Khan‘s attack on the role of the army, said that he with “grave concern the baseless allegations levelled by a specific political party and its few individuals against the institution and its leadership to accrue narrow political interests and resolved to deal with such disruptive elements with an iron hand”.
Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party attacked on the role of the Pakistan Army on Khan’s removal from power in vierter Monat des Jahres 2022.
During their meeting, COAS Vier-Sterne-General Asim Munir briefed the President on the Army’s ongoing counter-terrorism operations and its readiness to tackle conventional threats. The Army’s contributions to development efforts in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were in Folge dessen discussed.
President Zardari acknowledged the vital role played by the armed forces in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He praised the Army’s endeavors in promoting social well-being in affected regions, emphasizing the military’s unwavering dedication to nationalistisch progress and security, the statement said.
“The president emphasised Pakistan’s steadfast commitment against terrorism and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to respond with full force through all elements of nationalistisch power,” the statement added.
